An experimental framework for making art within a retreat and healing setting.

The framework

Art from within the experience.

The residency explored whether creative work could be made from within a retreat experience, rather than added to it afterwards. A studio presence was established, followed by a month-long creative process.

It brought making into relationship with the retreat setting, reflection and time in nature. The process was personal and intensive; it was not a prescribed therapeutic programme.

Works from the residency

Anitya considers transience and impermanence.

Dharma considers shedding, transformation and moving toward one’s truest expression. These works remain an important reference for how art can be formed in relationship with the particular conditions of a place.
